Sharon Basinger Lehman
Master of Music in Choral Conducting

Sharon Basinger Lehman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio. She has taught elementary and middle school general/choral music at both private and public schools in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. In addition to her work in the schools, she has over fifteen years of experience teaching private piano lessons. Sharon formerly served as the Choral Director at St. Peter’s First United Church of Christ in Huntington, IN, where she conducted the adult and children’s choirs and served as a general resource person for the music ministry of the church. When not teaching or on the podium herself, she enjoys accompanying choirs, voice students, and small ensembles.

Since 2005 Sharon has been employed by the Children’s Choir of Huntington County (CCHC) where she has directed both the Treble Choir and Concert Choir and currently holds the position of Artistic Director. Under her direction the Treble Choir of CCHC was selected to perform at the 2011 Indiana Music Educators Association conference. Sharon has also served as an interim choral director for the Treble Choir of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. In 2012 she was the guest conductor for the 125 participants of the Mennonite Youth Choir Festival held annually in Goshen, Indiana.

Sharon has completed Level 3 of the Creating Artistry Conductor’s Workshop facilitated by Mr. Henry Leck of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir. Other conducting mentors include Dr. Stephen Jacoby, Dr. Debra Brubaker, Dr. Eric Stark, and Dr. Duane Karna. At Ball State she is studying conducting with Dr. Andrew Crow and Mr. Kerry Glann. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Consortium of Indiana Children’s Choirs. Sharon lives in Huntington, Indiana with her husband and three children.
